Ways to Clinch Perfect Manicure at Home
1Get manicure supplies
The very first thing you need to do, to get professional manicure is to get manicure supplies like:
-
- Non – acetone Nail polish remover
-
- Cotton balls or Cotton swabs
-
- Cuticle trimmer
-
- Nail buffers
-
- Nail trimmers
-
- Nail file
-
- Cuticle and Hand cream / moisturizer
-
- Nail polish
-
- Base coat
- Top coat
2Remove your nail – polish
Acetone nail polish remover can be a bit harsh on your skin and can make your nails and surrounding areas dry. Try to use non-acetone nail polish remover. Remove previously applied nail polish with a non-acetone remover using a cotton swab or cotton balls. If you have or desire to get fake nails, such as acrylic, choose a polish that will not remove them.
If your remover is causing you skin irritation or allergies, then buy those which are suitable to your skin.
3Shape up
If you have uneven nails, use nail clippers to trim it. Do not cut your nails too short. You should be able to see at least a little of the white tip. Clipping should be done only if necessary.
After clipping nails, gently file them to shape. A slightly rounded nail shape or a square edge is the best way to go. Try to avoid extremely coarse nail files and metals to prevent crack. You can use a gentle abrasive emery board or a crystal nail file. Drag the nail across the file gently instead of pushing. Excessive force or slicing back and forth will weaken the nails and cause them to break. Do not file too short, just clean up any point or roughness left by the clippers.
4Buff your nails
Smooth the tops and sides of your nails with a white block of stick type nail buffer or a pad type nail buffer and buffing powder. Buff the surface to even out and to smooth out the ridges.
Remember not to smooth out the surface too much otherwise the polish will not stick well and literally slip off. Buffing will also help to remove ugly yellow stains (we all get from wearing too much nail polish).
5Soaking
Get a bowl of warm water (not hot) and mix few drops of soap. For DIY Manicure natural mix, you can use one tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of baby oil gel. Soak for a few minutes. Remember to scrub away dead & dry cells and the left over dust gently.
Nail brush is a good and easy way to clean your nails and skin around them. If necessary, shred under your nails to remove dirt. If you have dry skin and is using soap, don’t soak; rinse them.
If, you scrap too hard, it can damage your nails by removing the white powdery substance, which are actually part of your nail.

6Cuticle care
Rub some vitamin E oil on the nail, even can use nail cuticle cream, in the cuticle to make it soft before pushing them back with a cuticle pusher or an orange stick gently. Never pull, lift, tear, rip, cut and force them back, it can damage nails growth, cause infection and leaves the then – less – protected margin of the skin vulnerable or fray. It’s better to under-do this step than to overdo it because the cuticle helps to protect the nail bed from bacteria and damage.
If you have applied the cream, wipe out the excess cream with a tissue or a towel in the direction you pushed. You can use a small binder clip. Make sure it’s clean and well-formed, without sharp edges and be very careful while using a binder clip.
7Moisturize
Take a vitamin-rich lotion, hand cream or moisturizer and massage it into your hands. Moisturizing or massaging can hydrate and replenish skin. Be sure to rub it in and around your nails and let it soak in for 30 minutes or longer.
Moisturizing ingredients left on the nail will prevent polish from adhering properly. Use a cotton swab or pad, apply non-acetone nail-polish remover over the nail’s surface to remove any residue. For very dry skin, apply some greasy lotion and sleep with cotton gloves over your hands.
8Paint your nails
The very first step you should consider before applying nail polish is, use a base coat of ridge-filling nail polish to shore up the nail. A base coat also protects nails from staining and prevents chipping. It also creates an even surface for your color. One coat will do the work. Then, you can apply your favourite colourful nail polishes in layers. Allow each layer to dry in between. After two coats (or more) of your favorite nail polish, add a top coat to add gloss. Top coats always smooths away any imperfect flaws.
Now just sit, relax and enjoy your perfect manicure at home.
